Homeschool Buyers Co-op BBB Business Review

FAQS ▼

Please read this FAQ page carefully before contacting the Co-op.
What are the minimum system requirements? Is Type to Learn compatible with tablets, i.e. iPad?

To see a complete list of the minimum system requirements, please visit the Type To Learn: Minimum System Requirements page at the Sunburst website.

I downloaded the 14 day free trial subscription for Type to Learn 4. Now I want to purchase the one-year subscription through the Co-op. Will my student's progress carry over to the one-year subscription?

No, the subscription purchased through the Co-op is set up as a new student subscription.

Do I need a subscription for each student, and can they work on their lessons simultaneously?

You need a separate subscription for each student that will be using Type to Learn. The software tracks each individual student's progress, so you cannot have multiple students sharing the same account. Each student can work on their lessons simultaneously.

Will I receive teacher access with my paid subscription to Type to Learn 4?

We are sorry! Our school license does not include teacher access when you purchase through the Co-op, but you can get the same reporting information for your student from within your student's account. Any adjustments that need to be made to your student's subscription account can be done by the Co-op per your request. Please contact us to request adjustments.

I would like to know what the difference is between the three Levels of this typing program (Grades K-2, 3-6, or 7-12).

The difference in the grade ranges is the vocabulary presented, the amount of words presented, and the default WPM and accuracy goals.

My student is not familiar with the center row, and the software is now prompting her to enter capital letters, punctuation, and numbers. Should students be expected to touch-typing at this point, or is the program just helping them learn where the letters are?

If a student is in the K-2 level of the program, more than likely they will not be at the point of touch-typing and whatever method they are using will be more than acceptable. The program is meant to be repeated and expanded upon in terms of bettering WPM, accuracy, and touch-typing ability. If there is a concern of mastery, lessons can always be reviewed as many times as needed.

Is there a way for me to check my student's progress and scores?

You can view your student's Type to Learn progress by selecting the Reports tab after logging in to your student. Then you can "create" a variety of reports and graphs which indicate your student's progress.

My student has completed lesson 34 in the Intermediate Level, and the software showed that she received a certificate of completion. When I go to see a graph it shows that it appear that nothing has recorded.

If your student received a certificate it means she has completed the program. Lesson 34 does not record as it is a free response that students respond to, and several teachers will continue to use this lesson with their students.

My student has completed the last lesson in his vocabulary level, and we still have time on our subscription. Can I have his level changed to the next level?

Yes, we can do that for you. Please keep in mind that the Vocabulary Levels range in groups (not individual levels): Grades K-2, 3-6 , or 7-12. The Vocabulary Group your student was assigned to was determined by the Grade entered into the order form at the time of purchase. Example, if 7 was entered as the student's grade level at the time of purchase, your student was assigned to the Vocabulary Level for Grades 7-12. We cannot move the student any further in the system. However, if the student is in Grade 5 (the Grade 3-6 Vocabulary Level), we can move him to the Grade 7-12 level, if needed.

When will my student learn to use the Shift key?

Students learn to use the Shift key in Lesson 6.

My son is struggling to pass the Drone Control. What should I do?

Drone Control works to help increase a student's WPM and therefore only looks at typing speed. To assist your child in passing, we can decrease his WPM goal upon request.

Can my student pause mid-lesson and finish another day without losing progress?

A student must complete a lesson prior to closing the program for progress to be saved.
