What is Math-Whizz®?

Math-Whizz® is an online private tutoring service for 5 to 13-year-olds. Following an initial online assessment/test the service delivers a personalized program of lessons to your child through your home computer. As your child uses the service, the lesson program dynamically adjusts depending on their progress. Math-Whizz® covers the entire Common Core and State Standards and uses the teaching and creative animations found in our successful Math-Whizz® Teachers' Resource used by over 7,000 students in six states.

What is 'Math Age'?

Math age is a term we use to define math ability, similar to the way that 'Reading Age' helps to define reading ability. We use information given in the National Numeracy Strategy to calculate math age to the nearest quarter year (e.g. math age 8.25 = equivalent math ability to age eight and a quarter).

I am a not located in the US. Can I subscribe to Math Whizz?

Yes! If you decide to purchase an annual Math-Whizz® Subscription through the Home School Buyers Co-op, you will have access to the US version of our program.

Is it important to take the assessment? How long does it take?

Yes, it is important to take the assessment Math Whizz presents in the program. It is It is recommended that the student completes the assessment using the free trial. This way your student would have finished the assessment before actually purchasing the subscription, thus the student can move forward with his or her subscription.

Math Whizz's main goal with the assessment is to make sure that the program finds the student's ability in math. Even if your student is advanced in his or her own math level, it is still a very useful tool as it will create an individualized course of study for your student, which will challenge them.

The assessment can take a student up to one hour to complete, of course this is dependent on the student on how long actually how long this will take. The first topic of the assessment is based around the student's age. It may take a while to find their ability, but it is unlikely to be more than 10 minutes. The only way an assessment can take hours is if the student is very strong in one topic and then very weak in the next. This rarely happens, but it is possible. Other programs may not have a long assessment, but then it is up to the student or parent to decide what to teach.

Even if a student is strong across the board in math, and it is still taking him or her a long time to finish the assessment, then the only way the assessment could have taken this long is if they got help with some bits but not others.

Can I let my other children use Math-Whizz®?

If you want more than one child in a household to use Math-Whizz® they will all need to be separately registered, assessed and paid for. Allowing more than one child to use a single Student Account totally disrupts the continual assessment process and is prohibited by our terms and conditions. However you only require one Parent Account, from which you will be able to access all of your children's details.

How secure is my child's information?

When you add a student to your parent account we only collect the minimum information to deliver an excellent service (name, age, sex, username and password). For more information on how your child's information is stored please read our Privacy Policy (which can be accessed from the link at the foot of every page on
