Discover Center of Idaho has a ton of hands on science experiments set up and ready for you to go explore. There is a featured exhibit that changes every 6 months. It is set up in the first room you go into. There are two other big rooms set up with a variety of experiments. You can view most of the exhibits and information on them at their website.
Depending on what you are looking for in the field trip I believe they are two ways to do this trip. One way is to study in depth before hand one or to areas that involve the exhibits i.e. simple machines. Then go and focus on those exhibits and read all information and do the activity. Another way we do this trip sometimes is we go and I let the kids jump around and spend time where they want. I am always surprised when we leave and they talk about what they learned independently.

The DCI is one of the best places to take your children for hands on science fun. It's also a "do again" field trip. There is something for all ages here. We just spent a Saturday monring with a group of 24 kids (ages 1-11. All of them loved it. Don't let you kids miss out on this one!!
