Facility: | The DeWint House |
Description: | Built in 1700. George Washington's temporary headquarters on four occasions during the Revolutionary War, including his being present for the trial and hanging of John Andre, who with Benedict Arnold planned to betray the fortifications at West Point. Beautiful old stone house on an attractive setting with a large lawn. The house has been restored and tours are given in costume, so kids get a feel for what life would have been like in the 1700s. Annual festival in September is especially fun. |
