Description: | Dedicated to the life & times of General Sam Houston, former Governor of Tennessee, victor over Santa Anna in the Texas War of Independence, first President of the Republic of Texas, Senator from the State of Texas and Governor of the State of Texas. In the springtime the museum offers tours for large school groups. Spring tours consist of a short video about Sam Houston, guided visits to each historic building, the Memorial Museum, and demonstrations such as hearth cooking, black powder, historic toys, blacksmithing, medicine, phrenology, and spinning. Hands-on programs offered including the popular "Work and Play on the Farm." |
