|Facility:||Red Mountain Park|
|Description:||Red Mountain Park is an 11,000-acre urban park located just ten minutes from downtown Birmingham. Operating since 2012, we have over 12 miles of easy-difficult hiking and biking trails, as well as many fun activities for students, including zip lines, ropes courses, and climbing towers.
In addition to offering recreation, Red Mountain Park sits on what was formerly a booming mining community, and we have many abandoned structures that help tell the story of Birmingham industry from the 1800s to the 1970's. To interpret this story for students, we have recently added several field trip programs, including history hikes to abandoned iron ore mining structures, as well as nature walks that will help students understand how years of industrialization can affect a fragile environment.
