Facility:Peel Mansion Museum and Garden
Description:The Peel House Foundation is preserving one of the great architectural examples in Arkansas - the 1875 Col. Samuel W. Peel Mansion. We have also created rare perennial, native and rose gardens - all for the benefit of the people of Arkansas and its visitors. Living history demonstrations, including an 1855 log cabin which stood near the Battle of Pea Ridge, further enhance the site's historical importance. The Peel Mansion is available for tours Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is also available to rent as an event space.

This was an interesting and fun field trip. Our group took a guided tour of the mansion and gardens. We were able to go from room to room with a guide. The rooms are furnished and the museum is somewhat hands one. There are no ropes, you get the feel of touring someone's home. The only area off limits was the top floor which was the Peel children's school and play room.

We were able to view the kitchen and all of the appliances that a kitchen of the 1800's would have. We took a tour of the pantry, learned about Mrs. Peel and her love of gardening and her charity work. After the tour of the house, we toured the gardens. Our multi-aged group had a lot of fun. The tour took about an hour and a half. We went to a nearby park for lunch.

The museum is easy to find, you can see it from the road and parking is off of the Walmart parking lot on RT 71.
