Facility: | Olana State Historic Site |
Description: | Olana is the perfect place to begin or end a tour of the scenic Hudson River Valley - the beautiful, historic birthplace of the first school of American Art. Frederic Church, one of the most important landscape painters of the nineteenth century, designed his home and the surrounding Picturesque landscape to take full advantage of the magnificent views of the Catskill mountains and the river that inspired a generation of artists. Today, you can tour the house and stroll the grounds of the site hailed by many as the queen of the Hudson Valley estates. |
