Facility:National WWII Museum
Description:Renowned historian, author and educator, Dr. Stephen Ambrose founded The National World War II Museum Foundation in New Orleans in 1991. The Museum, which opened on June 6, 2000, is the only museum in the United States that addresses all of the amphibious invasions or 'D-Days' of World War II, honoring the more than 16 million Americans who took part in this global conflict. The Museum stands as our country's tribute to the men and women who made the invasions in Europe, Africa and the Pacific theaters successful. It presents their stories to an international audience, preserves material for research and scholarship, and inspires future generations to apply the lessons learned from the most complex military operation ever staged.

This is a great field trip experience for all! Although there was construction going on in adding on to the museum, the exhibits were amazing. First, you experience a simulated train ride, just like the one most soldiers traveled on in going off to war. You get a dog tag and can unlock a story about a soldier and use this dog tag at the many locations throughout the museum to learn more. Personally, the best part of the museum is the tanks and planes and portion of a submarine. You even get to see inside the submarine. We only visited the actual museum and did not do any of the extras, but I can only imagine how awesome they were too. Be sure to wear your best walking shoes. If you get a chance, this is a really great learning experience for all!
