 | Elizabeth, Co-op Member | My daughter and I attended a homeschool field trip recently at Myrtleville. It was our first field trip as a homeschooling family and we were both a little nervous and unsure of what to expect. Frankly, my daughter didn't want to be there at all. The staff and the hands on activities very quickly changed her mind. The staff easily accommodated groups that varied in age from 4 to 13.
The children baked cookies while being introduced to kitchen tools of the time. They toured the workshop learning about all of the tools used in the "old days". They learned about the kinds of toys the children would have had and were able to work to make one of them. Lastly, they learned about farming and planted a couple of seeds.
I really can't say enough good things about the museum and their staff. To be able to hold the attention and teach a large group of children from preschool to middle school is not an easy feat. I absolutely recommend a visit to Myrtleville to anyone. |
