Facility:Miracle of America Museum
Description:Miracle of America Museum, called by many visitors “the Smithsonian of the west;” Showing America’s progress from the walking-plow to walking on the moon. In the Pioneer Village behind the main museum are numerous items that are really hands-on. There are 30 buildings to see on 4 acres and lots of room to work kids’ wiggles out. The 1912 Green Mountain School has a bell to ring and authentic schoolyard swing sets. They also have a complete sod-roofed “Little House on The Prairie” that is a favorite of many young girls. The Paul Bunyan Logging Tow Boat is Montana’s only historic large maritime vessel and it is available for children to “steer” and use the engine-room telegraph as they keep watch out the cabin windows. Below the stern are small logs and logging chains that may be assembled and give kids the chance to practice their balancing act without being too far off the ground. This is just a sampling of the fun you and your kids can have here!

Every year the third weekend in July is Live History Days at the Museum when local people demonstrate their crafts such as spinning and quilting, pottery making, blacksmithing, aircraft piloting, steam engine and tractor demonstrations, mountain man lifestyle, carousel carving, and piano and accordion playing. Be sure to mark your calendar for this event and check out our Live History Days photo pages!
