Our sons (8 and 6) really love this zoo. There are a great variety of animals that are spread out between indoor and outdoor enclosures. The animals all look well cared for and healthy. This is huge for us. If the animals look pitiful it just isn't right...

There are tons of little shops to look around in and they really aren't too expensive. There are also lots of little food vendors with snacks and drinks along with the restaurants. We always bring our lunch and drinks. You are allowed to bring in a stroller/wagon and we keep our lunch in a backpack, but coolers are also allowed. We have eaten at one of the restaurants. It was ok. They even had a veggie burger. :)

Huge bonus: you don't have to pay for any exhibits.

Love, love this world class zoo! They are always doing something new and different here. This year there is a new stingray petting exhibit, as well as camel rides and giraffe feedings. Pandas are always a great draw. Everything is clean and well-maintained. They have great educational programs, including ones geared specifically at homeschoolers. If you plan to take your family more than once a year, this is a great activity to get a membership for- it more than pays for itself!

Honestly this was a pitiful zoo experience for us. Going in we knew that this was a very highly ranked zoo and were expecting it to be a great visit. Parking was fine, no issue. But the exhibits themselves were disappointing. There was no male lion at the time and only a few young lionesses. Half the other exhibits had animals all in hiding like the giraffes and elephants you could see a bit of them above or behind a wall so you knew they were there but none came out. And the absolutely worst part of all was that practically every single exhibit was concrete and far from a natural or even seemingly natural habitat. Then when we were finished with the whole of the zoo we entered the Memphis Aquarium to find about a dozen small fish tanks and that was it. In our past experience the Atlanta Zoo and DC Zoo are far superior and I doubt we would pay to return to the Memphis Zoo. So sad when we heard such positive things.

The Memphis Zoo our family visits 4-5 times a year. We love it . We spend a day there . Kids enjoy in the summer the water part of it . In the winter the ice skating part.
It has things you can pay extra to do like ride a camel which thrilled the girls. Feed a giraffe .
