The Lichterman Nature Center is included in the Pink Palace membership (free trial during the summer - sign up in May). They offer 'backpacks' to enrich your self-guided tour. They have two different colors with different things and the objects in them change seasonally. We got the green one this summer. I was impressed by how well thought-out the activity cards and the corresponding items were. It is a big place with a lot to explore. A great way to learn and get some exercise. The mini aquarium is cool.

We went during the summer membership discount months (as part of the new $5 3-month membership of the Pink Palace Museums) and spent a whole day and only saw half of the facility. As in we saw the pond environments, walking all the trails and the indoor buildings. We did not see the forest environments and plan to go back again. We took our wagon and the kids walked, or rode depending on their desires. It was a great day. The learning was mostly based on our own parental knowledge as we didn't see many posts or get any information for our own self guided tour. But it was incredible to turn on a street in the city and suddenly discover a wooded oasis.
