Come see the Houston Zoo - home to more than 3,500 exotic animals representing more than 700 species. The Houston Zoo is a great place to have fun while learning! The McGovern Children�s Zoo and the Wildlife Carousel close 30 minutes prior to the rest of the Zoo. There is no charge to enter the Children's Zoo with your paid Zoo admission.

We love zoos, and the Houston Zoo did not disappoint. It is very pretty and the grounds are lovely. It is a great way to spend a few hours looking at the many animal habitats. There are daily events taking place so check their website and get a schedule.

Best for:
1) Nature and animal behavior study
2) Geography as it relates to habitats
3) Seeing animals you read about
4) Enjoying a family day outdoors

Peak age of enjoyment: 0-9 y.o.

Pros: natural encounters building, friendly and knowledgeable staff, meet the keeper talks, nice landscaping, part of Hermann Park complex

Cons: price, can be tough to find parking, some areas are a bit "tired", small for a big city zoo

We loved the zoo. The only down side to it is that there's not an easy path to follow to see the whole zoo. It's kind of all over the place. We did a lot of back tracking. This wouldn't be a problem if you were to come often. I would go again.

My children and I love this zoo. We go quite often. They have a nice children's area with a petting zoo that my little ones love. They have lots of classes and learning talks going on quite often. Another awesome perk is that you can take your own cooler with any of your food so you don't have to pay for food while there. I as a mom of 4 love that part!
