Description:Authentic film footage, artifacts, photographs and documents show life in pre-war Europe, the Nazi move toward the "Final Solution" and life after the Holocaust. Our 1942 Holocaust-era railcar and 1942 Danish rescue boat teach the lessons of individual responsibility and how two different populations dealt with evil and injustice. Special tours and educational opportunities are available.

Holocaust Museum Houston is free each Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Memorial Day (May 26, 2014), D-Day (June 6, 2014), Kristallnacht (Nov. 9, 2014) and International Holocaust Remembrance Day (Jan. 27, 2015).

Age to start going: mature 13+, some may need to wait until 15 or 16 y.o.

Pros: free (donations of $5 encouraged), movingly brings vital history to life, detailed exhibits which are exceptionally done, knowledgeable and dedicated staff

Cautions: adult presence mandatory, if possible adults should preview the museum before bringing youth/teens, bring tissue and be prepared to experience a tremendous emotional impact
