The visitor center is educational(although all information there is presented from an old age of the earth perspective) but the best part is to get outside and visit the actual crater and also the active lava flows. There was a lot of driving involved in this field trip so plan ahead with snacks, water and activities to keep everyone happy. Wear comfortable shoes and hold on tight to your little ones because there are very few safety precautions or barriers at the active lava flow area. Awe inspiring.

Our daughter really enjoyed seeing the different craters and exhibits. We learned about many native plants and how they were affected by population growth. Seeing the power behind the volcano was awe inspiring. It was fascinating seeing how our islands have grown and continue growing.
