What did President Harry S. Truman think about use of the atomic bomb? What does the S. in his name mean? What did he do after his presidency was over? These questions and so much more are clearly answered in the numerous displays at the Harry S. Truman Museum. There is an interactive kids section that keeps the littler ones busy, and there are several fun pages the kids can take home to continue their study and solidify their knowledge. Be aware, though, that most of the displays are better for upper elementary and above. Our high school and college age students were intrigued and absorbed by the thoughtful and thorough presentation of Truman's life and presidency. As expected, we learned much about WWII and the development of nuclear weapons; the best presentation though was the extensiveness of information about the Korean War - a war often disregarded in between WWII and Vietnam. Likewise, if you can't visit the Holocaust Museum in D.C., this museum in the middle of the U.S. is an excellent alternative.
