Guadalupe Mountains National Park safeguards the world's finest example of a fossilized reef, a surprisingly complex and unique assemblage of flora and fauna, and West Texas' only legally designated wilderness. Here, one can experience solitude, tranquility, and the joy of finding plants and animals whose mastery of survival renews our sense of wonder.

Guadalupe Mountains sit on top of Carlsbad Caverns - plan to visit both on your trip. It's HOT in the summer -- wear hats & sunscreen & take water! Spectacular Junior Ranger program/interpretative center for the 5-9 year old range.

The visitor center is open daily except Christmas Day. Hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM MST, and 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM MDT in summer; other parts of the park are staffed different hours. (See http://www.nps.gov/gumo/planyourvisit/hours.htm )

My children loved the Junior Ranger program and the great hiking at this park. The visitor's center, Pinery Station, and Pratt Cabin offer great eduacation opportunities.
