Facility:Gateway National Recreation Area
Description:Gateway provides abundant recreational and learning opportunities within its three units.

Gateway's Jamaica Bay Unit in Brooklyn and Queens includes a wealth of history, nature and recreation, from New York City's first major airport and coastal fortifications to a wildlife refuge and pristine beaches.

From fishing to sailing, soccer and baseball to model airplane flying, Gateway's Staten Island Unit offers a wide range of recreational opportunities. This is in addition to the rich history of Fort Wadsworth and World War Veterans Park at Miller Field and the natural areas of Great Kills Park.

Visit the Sandy Hook Light, America's oldest operating lighthouse (1764), as well as Fort Hancock and the Sandy Hook Proving Ground, which helped to defend our freedom, at Gateway's Sandy Hook Unit in New Jersey. These sites complement outstanding beaches, a Holly forest and other natural and recreational resources.
