I love historic villages and Erie Canal history so this appealed to me. My son took part in a fun and educational day-long archaeology class for homeschoolers. There is a small museum and unless you're coming with a group I would recommend planning a visit around one of their special events.

I thought this location was wonderful. We scheduled a Home-school group tour and the staff went beyond the call of duty! We had an archeological dig and we were introduced to new vocabulary such as Eco-facts and artifacts! We were given a tour on the historical locations on the site and how the Erie Canal was used in daily operations. They have a replica of the towpath store, black smith shop and even a Canal Boat. The staff was dressed in the Era apparel! It was such a great experience that we purchased a membership to the museum so that we can go back and learn even more about the Canal System!
