For the money, you won't find a better zoo in the south! You can easily see everything they have to offer (creative habitats, learning stations, and seasonal exhibits such as Christmas lights) in one trip. The docents are knowledgeable, available and very homeschool friendly. Call first to arrange a private lecture and hands-on exhibit for a few families of homeschool kids. The train is a favorite with the kids and allows you to see the whole zoo, including areas they are working on behind the main exhibits. Avoid afternoon summer visits as the animals are sluggish and the bugs are pretty bothersome around the bayou exhibit. My kids love the play areas and feeding the koi fish by the train station. Winter visits are the best because the critters are most active. Call ahead to see if schools are there to avoid long lines as some cage openings are small. There are often local ballet groups, church or school kids plays and other local groups doing performances in the outdoor theatre. Neat cultural experience!

My kids love this zoo. It is smaller so you get closer to the animals but there are not any large animals other than bears abd tigers. We go about once a month. well worth the hour trip to go!

Recently went to this zoo after not going for a long time. They were much better than they used to be. Animals were out and cared for. Staff was very friendly. Not enough bathrooms throughout the zoo so if you have little ones and you come across one go just in case. Snack bar way over priced.
