We saved this field trip until the late part of winter here in Massachusetts, when we were sick of the cold, the snow no longer held any interest, and we wanted to see flowers, butterflies, and be WARM! It was a treasure. Go during homeschooling hours and get a discount. They also participate in discount programs but we went at these non-peak hours because on a prior school visit I had found that the running kids discouraged meaningful observation of the butterflies. So my two kids and I were the only ones in the place, except for the wonderful docent who has been there for YEARS and knows so much. Because of that we could sit and the butterflies would pass right by us. In fact more than one moth-like butterfly alighted on my shoulder (they blended in to the alpine print on my sweater)and we relaxed and got a close look.

A splendid few hours out and well worth the price. In our opinion, better than the newer butterfly place at the Museum of Science in Boston.

A beautiful atrium filled with plants, trees, and lots of different butterflies! There are exhibits explaining the life cycle of the butterfly, a great video, and staff available to answer questions and help identify different species. Great trip, especially if you have younger children!
