At Washington Farms they do Pumpkin Farm Field Trips in October and Strawberry Farm Field Trips in April and May. Both field trips include an educational talk about how they grow the strawberries/pumpkins, what plants need to grow, pollination by the bees, the role of leaves in photosynthesis, and "how to pick" instructions. We use enlarged photographs in the talk as well as a bee puppet. The talk is geared to the age of the children and lasts about 10-15 minutes.
Each field trip includes an educational talk, a coloring book, a pie pumpkin or pint of berries the children pick, and a visit to the petting farm where the children can see and pet calves, goats, pigs, bunnies and chickens. |
