| Washington Crossing Historic Park |
| This 500-acre historic park consists of two discontinuous tracts. The Lower Park interprets the story of General Washington and his army's crossing of the Delaware River in 1776 and subsequent victories at the Battles of Trenton and Princeton. This area includes the historic structures of the McKonkey Ferry Inn/Tavern as well as the 19th century village of Taylorsville. Recreational facilities with picnic pavilions, Visitors Center, replica Durham boats and museum store are also part of the Lower Park. The Upper Park includes Bowman's Hill Tower (an observation tower, open seasonally), the historic Thompson-Neely house and grist mill, and a small military cemetery where members of Washington's army were buried during the 1776-77 encampment. |

 | | Lisa Clark, Co-op Member | | This small park was one of the best visits we made during our study of the American Revolution. We got to see the spot where General Washington saved his army to continue fighting the war. We wondered how the men fared in the bitter cold, and we ate a picnic lunch in the shade of the trees lining the banks where the men boarded the boats to fight the Hessians. Walking the ground where our history was made really makes it come alive. This park was small enough to make the events so much more real. My children were much better able to imagine the events that took place in this sleepy little bend in the river. |
