| The museum, opened by Governor Pete Wilson in 1991, is the official military museum and historical research center of the State of California. Today the museum houses over 30,000 artifacts as well a substantial library and archives. In addition to the main facility in Sacramento, the museum also has five satellite museums. |

| The California State Military Museum is currently on its Winter schedule. The museum is open from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday and 10:00 am until 5:00 pm Friday and Saturday. The museum is open Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day regardless of the day of the week. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Easter. |

They have a nice gift shop, which has many useful books for teaching on the subject of military history. Not a bad museum to visit. Take time to chat with the workers, they have wonderful stories to tell you about all the different artifacts. |
