 | | Esther G., Co-op Member | | Our homeschool group went to the SMOF on a planned field trip. We were met by an employee wearing a flight suit, which the kids though was COOL. He led us into the theater and introduced the museum and the movie. The movie was not too long or short and was entertaining to everyone. Then our guide led us through the museum, stopping in every room to explain each exhibit. The museum is laid out nicely with each room a different theme, for instance, early powered flight, homebuilding, and military planes. There is a wonderful WW2 room that includes an exhibit about the Tuskegee airmen. There were many cockpits the children were all allowed to climb in and "fly". Our guide was patient and took questions from everyone. At the midpoint of our visit, the children were led to tables, given supplies, and allowed to build their own paper glider. The museum has a large indoor facility with many nice airplanes, but they also have an even larger outdoor exhibit of airplanes very close by. This was a wonderful field trip for all ages. I highly recommend it. |
