| Soo Locks |
| The Soo Locks and Soo Locks Visitor Center combine to present a masterpiece of engineering. The elevation between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan are different enough to create dangerous rapids, where they join. Set at that location, the Locks present channels that open and close, into which a boat enters and water is allowed to fill the channel or drain from it depending on the direction the of the boat. Here you will see large ships carrying imports/exports between the US and Canada passing through. In the visitor's center you can view displays that demonstrate how the locks function, the underwater topography and the building of the Locks. A thirty minute film shares the historical perspective on the need and use of the Locks. In addition to this, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and perfect for a picnic. |
