| Description: | Established in 1866 as Shaw University for the education of freed slaves, on the site of slave auctions campground for Grant's troops. Campus and is home to over 400 pieces of African art, sculptures and masks. Renamed in 1890 to honor Richard Sutton Rust, a clergyman and educator, and again in 1915, to Rust College to better represent the size of the school. . |
