| Description: | Russell Cave National Monument is an archeological treasure containing evidence as to how prehistoric people lived in the Southeast for almost 10,000 years. Virtually, no other place in the region holds such a rich record offering clues to how the first Americans fed, clothed, and protected themselves. The monument contains an information center with exhibits on prehistoric Indians and their lifeways. Visitors can enjoy demonstrations of prehistoric tools and weapons as well as guided archeological walks. Other recreation opportunities available at this site include picnicking, horseback riding, and hiking. |
