This has been my third visit to the philly zoo. It's just okay as far as a zoo goes. I hate to say that because I love philly field trips in general, but this place just seemed run down and tired. In fact my husband and I think they placed fake animals in some of the areas and tried to pass them off as real. We stood there and stared for a while, but by that time the kids (7,4,1) just kept saying, "Why isn't anything here moving!?" I also think there are a lot of hidden charges. On top of admission they have parking fees, and all of the interesting stuff in the zoo you need to pay for as well (like feeding and riding the animals). For our family it was only a few bucks more to buy a membership, but we didn't feel it was worth it to go back when we have a smaller, less expensive zoo locally.

We have two boys ages 4 and 6 and we think the Philadelphia Zoo is the perfect size for them. They can walk through the whole place and just start getting tired after we've seen everything. I love that you can bring your own food into the zoo. We have a family membership, so the only spending money I need is for extras.

We've been members for years, and enjoy the changes such as the Great Cat Falls and the addition of penguins. There are some hidden gems in the Philadelphia Zoo that many visitors miss.

One of our favorites is the aviary with the short film, Otis' Big Adventure. The aviary is never crowded, and often we are the only ones in the small movie theater.

My children had attended Zoo Camp, and have taken some weekend classes. I just wish they offered classes during the week specifically for homeschoolers.
