| Nashville Zoo at Grassmere |
| Nashville Zoo provides a home to animals found all over the world. These beautiful creatures can be found in equally beautiful habitats like the new Giraffe Savannah, Alligator Cove, African Wild Dog Habitat and many more. Other exciting additions include the Wild Animal Carousel and an interactive Lorikeet Landing exhibit where you can enter an aviary and be surrounded by more than 50 Australian parrots. The Grassmere Historic House and Farm still stand, providing a glimpse into farm life during the 1880s. |

 | | Angel F., Co-op Member | We love this Zoo because it is so beautiful and clean and affordable. A family membership is about $80 a year and worth every penny. This membership also includes free or discounted admission to many other zoos nationwide.
As you walk through the zoo on paths, you are surrounded by very tall bamboo groves that give a sense of tranquility and back-to-natureness that makes the zoo experience magical and memorable.
All the animals live in nice areas and if I had to live in a zoo, it would be this one.
There is also an awesome indoor exhibit called "Unseen World" with hundreds of nocturnal creatures and lots of different aquarium exhibits as well.
Be sure to visit the playground -- the granddaddy of all playgrounds, as we call it. Tunnels, swings, forts, mazes, a jump room, a giant cargo net and lots of other fun stuff.
Tips to plan your visit:
*Pack a Picnic Lunch
*Pack Change of Clothes---there is a giant snake that shoots water near the playground.
* Go during the public school year when school is in session.
* Call ahead to make sure there are no large groups or field trips on the day of your planned visit.
*Check the website for special events. |

 | | Ringleader of Circus MaGuik, Co-op Member | LOVE this Zoo!
This zoo is like no other - imagine a nature walk with animals instead of the traditional cages. Often times you can't realize how they keep the animals in their areas.
Wear your walking shoes! There is a lot of walking ... you can use strollers. We always walk (even when they were toddlers)and just take our time walking from exhibit to exhibit. The kids always sleep well after our zoo visits.
Pack a lunch or buy there on zoo property. If you can visit more than once in a year, it is much cheaper to get a membership. Bring a copy of your association certificate or a note from your umbrella program and you qualify for an educator's rate.
They have opened at least two exhibits a year each year since opening ... lots of growth still coming and new animals to see. A fabulous petting zoo area.
Avoid going in late spring, summer or Saturdays if you can unless you go after 3pm when the crowds have dispersed. Plus at that time it is cooler and you get to see the animals more and often the keepers feeding the animals.
Our favorite time to go is early morning Sept-Nov and mid-day in winter-early spring. |

 | | Steve, Co-op Member | Very good deal if you become a member and are in a position to go a few times or more a year. The play ground is incredible, we went recently and 95% of the day our kids played in the playground. We have went during cool weather during the week and all but had the park to ourselves. Plenty of picnic tables so you can save on food. Parking is also included with membership.
Different levels of membership can make it a great deal for grandparents and grandchildren. On our membership any or all of our kids can go with one guest admission for one grandparent or other adult, the kids just have to have an id. |
