| Margaret Chase Smith Library |
| The Library uses the collection to interpret the life and career of Senator Margaret Chase Smith (1897-1995) and place her within the context of her history and modern times. By illuminating artifacts as they relate to one person's devoted career in public service, the collection is an invaluable resource for anyone studying the political, social, cultural, educational, and architectural history of twentieth-century America. |

 | | Stephanie R., Co-op Member | | This was a really neat place to visit. We arranged for a tour and it started with a 20 min. video about Mrs. Smith's life. We had a wide range of ages from 1st grade to 11th grade. My 6 yr. old son even sat for this. Though he started to get a little restless at the end of the video. We were then brought into the museum and showed different things from her life. It was really incredible to see some of the things that she was given for being such an active and prominent women in our government. We then got to tour her house (which the museum had been built up and around.) The kids loved this!! From little chairs to the door knobs being down low due to Mrs. Smith being short. They thought that was cool. Then we got to meet with the secretary who had helped Mrs. Smith and got to see where they kept the library of every meeting or interview or speech that she had made. I walked away feeling awed that a women could do so much! Definetly a place to see! |
