Facility:Malabar Farm State Park
Description:Malabar Farm in Pleasant Valley was the dream of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Louis Bromfield. Today, visitors can see the house and farm existing just as they did in Bromfield's time. The outbuildings and pastures still house chickens, goats and beef cattle. The hills are ribboned with strips of corn, wheat, oats and hay while the scenic trails are adorned with nature's bounty.

Malabar Farm reflects the agricultural tradition of Ohio while focusing on Louis Bromfield's life and philosophies. The 32-room Big House, designed by Bromfield and architect Louis Lamoreux, is a blend of Western Reserve architectural styles and was built to appear as if it had been added onto over the years. Tours of the mansion, preserved just as Louis left it in 1956, are offered year-round.

Wagon tours of the farm are offered May through October. During the growing season, Malabar Farm offers educational tours of its vegetable garden.

There is a nominal fee for house and wagon tours. Contact the park for hours and fees.

The up's are numerous, the setting is beautiful, the trails are nice, the house tour and wagon tours were very informative and fun. They have a wide variety of farm animals and that is always fun. Their gift shop/visitors center was built to be eco-friendly. They have neat activities for the children in the visitor center, but there are only a few. If you go drive to the top of the highest hill, I cannot remember the name of it but they will tell you. It is a breathtaking view. The only down was we went to a picnic area to have a picnic lunch and the tables were literally falling apart. They may have addressed that by now but I would recommend taking a blanket or something else to eat on in case. Overall a great family adventure and they hold many different events during the year.
