| Limberlost State Historic Site |
| This State Historic Site was once home, playground, laboratory and inspiration to one of Indiana's most famous female authors, naturalists, and born story-tellers -- Gene Stratton-Porter. Visitors to the site will learn about the author, her works and the Limberlost Swamp. Stretching for 13,000 acres this vast forest and swampland was a legend for its quicksand and unsavory characters. |

 | | Dixie E., Co-op Member | | We visited Limberlost on July 30, 2010 and really enjoyed our visit. We had a terrific guide who went over and above what was expected. He was very knowledgeable and presented the information in such a way that he kept the interest of my five children that range in age from 5 to 12. I have one son that came home from our visit to Limberlost and read the book Freckles by Gene Stratton-Porter and is now reading her book The Girl of the Limberlost. We are hoping to sometime visit her home in Rome City, IN as well. |
