My family went to Leonis Adobe Museum in 2010 on their special Spring day where they had an egghunt with eggs hidden in hay patches!!

It was a hay-dusty egghunt so different from all the easily found eggs on green grass.

Leonis Adobe has two main structures ... the actual Leonis home plus barn and water-tank building and another historic building brought from part of LA and now houses the gift shop. Please see the official website for more historical details.

In addition to enjoying the historical details and structure of the main house (see especially the original journals kept about the place written in beautiful cursive), barn and what turn of the century farm tools and equipment are like, kids will have lots of fun feeding the farm animals as well as all the chickens .... feed is available on site. Kids can also learn to pump water from the well. On organized field trips and on special days at Leonis Adobe Museum, kids can learn to make corn tortillas or other crafts.

Some interesting facts: In the kitchen, ask the docent which is the real ham being cured for over 20 years and apparently still edible in this cool larder!!! The Native American lady of the house had to sue for her inheritance rights as a common-law wife and she did so successfully, albeit not soon enough to enjoy her success before she died. It took a long time to track down all the remaining witnesses present at their wedding!!!

There is a very nice park nearby with a creek running through it that I am told is very nice, but we did not have time on that day to visit it.

Clearly a field trip worth half a day!!!

Our homeschool group had a trip here. It is one of the best hands on learning trips we have been to. The kids really enjoyed washing clothes by hand, grinding corn and making tortillas, churning butter and roping mock cattle. Smiles all day as we learned history. We topped it off by having lunch in the park on the corner watching the birds in creek.
