 | | Cathy U., Co-op Member | We enjoyed our visit to the zoo but were shocked at the fact that many of the animals seemed to be in small, cages instead of natural-looking habitats. We were really shocked to see giant gorillas in rooms smaller than the kids' bedrooms. They have a huge gorilla habitat but only one gorilla can be in because they don't always get along. Two gorillas are kept in small rooms. I guess we were expecting that, in this day and age, there would be more natural habitat areas. It is an older zoo and that might be the reason.
The staff was very friendly and we saw many animals that our local zoo does not have such as the white tiger, gorillas and red pandas.
The best part of the zoo was their homeschool Tuesdays!! I wish our local zoo did this for our homeschool community. Every Tuesday they offer a science class. There is a different theme each month, and each week they build on that theme. It was very interesting and done in a fun way for the kids.
Overall, it was a great visit. I only gave four stars because I felt bad for the animals in the small cages. |

However, it is a great family outing and a nice way to learn more about a good variety of animals. If you live in Chattanooga, you get free family admission to the Knoxville Zoo if you have a membership to the Warner Park Zoo. Nice! Kid's Cove inside the Knoxville Zoo is a great place for the younger children. They have a carousel, a nice play area with sand, slides, and climbing equipment. Also a petting zoo. We enjoyed seeing the beavers, red pandas, white rhinos, giraffe, and tigers. |

We purchased a membership for less than the cost of one visit to the zoo. They have homeschool days every week during the school year. Also, the children can take a break from learning and play in Kid's Cove. The kids always love walking through the Butterfly Garden. Overall, this is a great field trip for any family. |
