The Kansas City Zoo is a great place for kids to experience animals first hand. With their great membership deals you can go for an hour or two many times during the year. We have gone just to ride the train and tram when we were studing transportation. Also a great place to get exercise as you can do alot of walking while the kids get a chance to run around.
This is a place my teens and 5 year old are always willing to go.
