 | | Ida M., Co-op Member | | We have been to the International Crane Foundation several times and have enjoyed it very much. We plan on visiting it again this year. Visiting here is such an education. The introductory film is interesting and informational about various Crane species around the world. The 15 different Crane species on the Foundation grounds show off the variety of these large birds. The Whooping Crane area is a great way to see these birds up close and in a similar situation as they would be in the wild. Often the Whooping Cranes are in the process of raising a chick. This is quite interesting and entertaining. When visiting the International Crane Foundation our children throughly enjoy visiting the cranes as well as going on the miles of hiking trails through the variety of natural settings. Many native plants and bird species are visible throughout these nature trails. Along with the Crane Art building there is an educational building where you can learn about Cranes around the world. In this building there is a Crane cam where you will be able to see where the Foundation is raising Whooping Crane chicks for for Operation Migration. Overall this is a place to spend a few hours, a day or several days throughout the various seasons of the year. The web site is full of information, pictures, educational resources for teachers as well as a place designed just for children. It is a place where they can learn to make origami cranes, learn about the behavior of cranes, or get involved in ICF's Children's Art Exchange. |
