 | | Bobbi H, Co-op Member | We went two times last year- once as a family, and again with our Cub Scout Pack. We were lucky enough to go with our Scouts on "Landing Day", so they had several historic interpreters on hand to talk to our Scouts about the events and the time period. The archeologists took time to speak with the boys and show them some of the finds they had that day from the dig site. They were able to do several hands on activities consistent with the time period of the day. They kids loved it. On our family trip, we enjoyed exploring the grounds on our own, but we could also have joined in with a Park Ranger who was doing a tour. The history is everywhere. It is a fantastic way to connect what you see at Jamestown Settlement (just a mile or so up the road) with the REAL site of the original fort, as well as the artifacts found that are on display in the archearium (museum).
Tip: You can get in FREE by telling them you are a Homeschool at the ticket desk. They will ask you to fill out a form with your school information. I did this on our family trip, as well as our Scout trip. Several in our Scout group were homeschoolers, so also got in free. |
