| Fort Washita |
| Fort Washita was established in 1842 as the southwestern-most post in the United States. (Beyond the borders to the south and west was the Republic of Texas which had recently won its independence from Mexico.) The purpose of the post was to protect the Chickasaw and Choctaw Indians from the Plains Indians. |

 | | Kristina F., Co-op Member | | We went for a festival that was being held there. It was great. However, since then there has been a fire (Sept 2010)that destroyed the barracks. Have not been back since. The event we went to was very interesting. We got to see a real Teepee, people cooking out over a campfire (kinda like what we do, only more extensive!) The kids (and Mom!) really enjoyed it! |
