| Fort Gibson |
| Built in 1824, Fort Gibson served as a staging area for several military expeditions which explored the west and sought peace between the tribes of the region. The post was reactivated during the Civil War. Visitors to the site can see a reconstruction of the early log fort as well as original buildings from the 1840s through 1870s. |

 | | Michele, Co-op Member | | What a great field trip! We went on a day when they had reenactments which brought so much life to the Fort. The kids loved seeing the period costumes and we were able to understand better the trials of living in this time period. The actors were very informative and answered many questions. |
