Florida Caverns State Park

Description:

This is one of the few state parks with dry (air filled) caves and is the only Florida state park to offer cave tours to the public. The cave has dazzling formations of limestone stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, flowstones, and draperies. Florida Caverns is also popular for camping, swimming, fishing, picnicking, canoeing, boating, hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding (The park does not rent horses.). Stables are available for equestrian campers. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and is considered to be moderately strenuous. An audiovisual program, touring the cave and other natural areas of the park, is available in the visitor center. Located three miles north of Marianna on State Road 166.

Admission:

Admission Fee: $5.00 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle. $4.00 Single Occupant Vehicle. $2.00 Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass.

Camping Fee: $20.00 per night, plus tax. Includes water and electricity.

Cave Tour Fees: $8.00 per person, plus tax, age 13 and older.
$5.00 per child, plus tax, 3 to 12. Free, 2 and younger. $4.00 per person, plus tax, organized groups of 25 or more with prepaid reservations.

We went there on Halloween for a special history lesson and performance by the staff of area legends and civil war tales. The next day we explored the entire cavern. The camping area was nice and facilities were clean but not within walking distance of the cavern. There are also lots of hiking trails around the cavern. This tour is not for children who are afraid of the dark or anyone who is clausterphobic!
