| Dallas Arboretum |
Lead your own exploration of Dallas' most beautiful classroom on the shores of White Rock Lake. Towering trees, colorful gardens and lush lawns on the shores of White Rock Lake make the perfect setting for an educational family or class adventure. Request a garden hunt when you make your reservation. It will "wake up" your children's senses as they explore the great out-of-doors. Be sure to bring your lunches and stay for a picnic. Mondays - Fridays; Pre-K - 12th Grades; $3 per child, $4 per adult.
The Dallas Arboretum was founded upon the dreams of a few visionary Dallasites. Though the gardens themselves are comparatively young, the work that went into creating the
current gardens began long ago |

 | | Stacy F, Co-op Member | They have many different events that correspond with the seasons which makes it nice for repeat visits. Homeschool groups can get special rates, but the normal tickets are not cost-prohibitive. Their website says there is a fee for parking, but in all the years I have been there they never charge. The gardens are beautiful and they ALWAYS have kid-friendly areas. My son loves going into the pioneer home and tipi that are there year-round. They also have many different types of gardens/landscaping which makes this the ideal spot for studying different habitats.
They only do "classes" for large groups which is unfortunate, but they will give you materials for a self-guided tour that has worksheets with it for the children. The negative side to doing a group visit is that they plan those on the same days as the public school field trips. The crowds around all the popular exhibits make it less enjoyable. However, the Arboretum is huge so it is not difficult to get away from the crowds. They let you bring in your own food and there are so many beautiful places to have a picnic. Overall, it is a must-see in Dallas. |

 | | Vicki Sword, Co-op Member | | We have been going to the arboretum annually for years. We love it in the spring especially. Every year there is some new exhibit made out of flowers that is delightful to look at. The children's area has little prairie houses and tee pees. There is also a carriage ride. The gift shop has many neat things for the person with a green thumb. |
