Do you think snakes are slimy? Ever wonder how some lizards can climb smooth surfaces? Find out the truth about these questions and more at the Zoo's Reptile House!
In the South American Tropical Rainforest exhibit enjoy vibrantly colored birds that fly freely through the exhibit, as well as a breathtaking array of flowering plants. This exhibit is a source of education and information on the destruction of the world's rainforests and how the conservation of these very unique ecosystems is important to our future on this planet.
All of the breeds in the Small Wonders special exhibit have been developed by man over thousands of years to produce valuable products for human use. Some of the animals like the sheep produce fiber for clothing, meat and lanolin. Some of the animals have been bred for milk production such as the cattle and the goats. The llama was bred to carry heavy loads for man along with providing fine hair for yarn. Each of these breeds originated from wild animals which were brought into man's control and selectively bred for certain traits.
And there is much more to discover at the Chaffee Zoo! |

 | | Beckie T., Co-op Member | | The Chaffee Zoo is an awesome zoo. Just the right size to visit for a day, with plenty of varieties of animals. Some of their enclosures are still less then optimum, but they are working hard to improve their spaces. They have a great rain forest exhibit, with an open area that boasts 100s of dart poison frogs! They also have a great area for children to feed and interact with sting rays. I highly recommend the Chaffee Zoo! |

 | | Jill, Co-op Member | | Our homeschool group visited the zoo and paid the extra in order to have a docent lead tour. It was worth it, as the docent was so informative, and kept the group moving. After the tour, we were able to return to the areas that interested us the most. Also, we had a special program by the "Bat Lady." She was a wealth of information and kept our group longer than our scheduled time. This isn't a complaint as the kids were very entertained with her stories and information on bats. She is available for other topics as well, but her passion for bats was contagious. We all left there appreciating bats. The zoo is a good size for a day trip. The students of all ages and adults had a fabulous day! |

 | | Melanie C, Co-op Member | | We've visited many zoos and are happy that one of the best is in our own backyard. The Chaffee Zoo offers a wide variety of different and unusual species of animal. They offer exciting opportunities to interact with animals, by feeding a giraffe, or by petting and feeding the rays in stingray bay. It's even a nice getaway during the hot summer months with it's rich, mature trees providing shade and relief from the hot summer sun. |
