| Description: | Centre Hill Mansion is the third home of the Bolling Family in Petersburg. It was and is the grandest home in the City. Built in 1823, remodeled in the 1840's and 1901, the building illustrates the evolution of architectural styles, room usage, decorative arts and Southern culture. Ornate woodwork and plaster motifs accompany period furnishings. In the basement, the 1840's service tunnel connects the work area of the house to the city below. During the reconstruction period after the Civil War, the mansion was used as Union Headquarters. |
