| Cable Car Museum |
| Along with the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars are easily one of San Francisco's most famous icons. This museum celebrates their enduring attraction with exhibits, a video and four sets of the huge powerhouse wheels that drive the entire system. You will also see the first cable car (circa 1873) and learn about the origin of the system and the role cable cars played in the city's history. Check out the nifty giftshop that sells cable car-related merchandise. |

 | | Mary E., Co-op Member | | This stop was worth making. It was interesting to see the huge cables that are used in making the cable cars move. Of course after seeing the workings, it's fun to ride the cable cars as well. This was a relatively quick place to tour. There weren't a lot of things to see but the underground "tunnel" allowed you to see how the cables move and what it looks like underneath the streets. This is worth doing if you are in San Francisco and have a little bit of extra time. It doesn't take long. There is a nice gift shop inside for San Francisco souveniers as well. |
