 | | Shannon W., Co-op Member | I went to Burpee with my 4 children (11, 9, 7, and 3) after visiting the children's museum next door.
Fortunately, it was a free admission as we could take advantage of ASTC reciprocity through our Adler Planetarium membership.
Unfortunately, my kids were fairly bored! We probably covered all 3 floors in about 45 minutes and they were itching to move on.
They did enjoy seeing the juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, but other than that they were not overly impressed.
I enjoyed the geological history of the Rockford / Northern Illinois area.
Unless a child is intensely interested in natural history or geology, there may not be much to capture their interest in the exhibits themselves. Burpee, however, does have a wide range of educational activities (some specifically for homeschoolers) that might make the experience both more hands-on and intellectually engaging. |
