I tear up every time I visit Arlington National Cemetery. The thousands upon thousands of tombstones sends chills through my body. So many people are buried there who made the ultimate sacrifice. They gave their lives for our freedom. President Kennedy is buried there along with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The eternal flame is between their gravestones.

The most moving experience to witness is the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. These young men stand guard 24/7, 365 days a year through wind, rain, snow, sleet, hail, and they never utter a word. They do this for two years. I have a friend who was one of these soldiers, and he will never forget his experience as a guard. They spend hours upon hours just getting ready each day to start their duty. So, not only is the ceremony itself pristine and awe-inspiring, the lives these young men must lead for two years is very impressive as well.

Visit the museum to learn more about the cemetery. Take a tour. It is so worth it.

HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE!!
If you have anyone handicapped please note you have special accessibility privileges! Stop in the visitors center and you can get a pass for your dashboard and are able to drive around the cemetery and have special parking privileges. This was a huge blessing. Without it my husbands wheelchair would not have been able to make that trek to the tomb of the unknown soldier and have any power left for the rest of the day!

I wholeheartedly agree with the previous review. It is a moving experience to see the changing of the guards and did bring tears to my eyes. Make sure to spend some time before you go explaining the significance to your kids. It will make it all the more meaningful. To keep younger ones occupied, have them study the soldiers mirrored movements and see if they make any mistakes!
