The American Museum of Natural History in New York has one of the world's five largest herpetological collections! (Most of us know these animals as amphibians and reptiles). This website that is a companion to the current exhibit called, "Lizards and Snakes Alive!" The online exhibit includes a wealth of well-catalogued, in-depth information and fun activities. Prepare to be amazed by the eye-popping photos too. When you get to the website you can watch a brief, introductory video. Then use the menu to explore: *Sight Hounds - Find out how some reptiles, like Iguanas, rely on their vision to find food and mates. *Transitional Group -- Learn interesting facts about Geckos and Girdled Lizards. *Nose Hounds -- Discover how Skinks rely on scent and chemical cues to find prey and avoid predators. *Supersize Squamates -- Learn all about the enormous Komodo Dragon. *Snakes - The claim here is that snakes are misunderstood. Find out why. The museum has developed free companion learning materials for grades K-12 too. They are available in the Font color="#0000A0">Educator's Guide.Back on the menu you can access even more reptilian fun: *Lizard Sounds -- Listen to the different varieties of rattles, hisses, and other amazing sounds these critters make. *Lizard Cam -- Click the photo on this page to watch the live cam.
