Registration for The Unschooling Conference 2010 is NOW OPEN!
Conference registration will be limited to 80 participants.
We are particularly privileged this year to welcome :
John Taylor Gatto as our keynote speaker! This will be John's first public appearance in Madison, and a huge honor for him to be coming, as he has limited his public appearances in recent years.
For those of you who have yet to hear John in person, prepare yourself for a real treat! John's latest book is Weapons of Mass Instruction: A Teacher's Journey Through the Dark World of Compulsory Schooling. Please visit the conference information section for a complete bio and bibliography of John's work.
While the majority of John's work has been to craft and disseminate a scathing critique of our country's broken school system and not directly on the subject of unschooling, he has been an outspoken advocate for the efficacy of homeschooling and why it works where education as an institution has failed. His scholarly work on the history of schooling has had a profound effect on mainstream notions of what constitutes education in this country, as well as all over the world.
Our theme for this year will be :
Playing in the Circle of Life: Experience the Joy of Unschooling
Come prepared to participate in a day of play, and deep thinking about the importance of this essential human activity. We will discuss many questions relating to this topic including the value of play in child development, the natural role play has in the lifestyle of an unschooling family, the effect of structured play on the development of our children's imaginations, and how the loss of unstructured play affects learning.
The Unschooling Conference 2010
Will take place on Saturday, February 13, 2010

| H.O.M.E. (Home-Oriented, Meaningful Education) is a Madison, Wisconsin-based, secular homeschooling network. Our group was founded in 1984 based on the philosophies of John Holt and the concept of unschooling, a concept for which we are passionately committed to providing support in our community. While H.O.M.E. welcomes everyone regardless of individual educational philosophy, our primary mission is to create a safe space for families who want to embrace unschooling in their own lives. |
